Bridge work Causes Traffic Changes

Renovation work on the Market Bridge has already begun.  The work is scheduled to finish on the 12th of December this year.

Starting at the beginning of this week, traffic in and around the Farmers Market will be affected by the work.  This will affect the bus stop in Rua do Visconde de Anadia – east traffic lane, in the section adjacent to the Market Bridge, as well as road traffic on Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot – west transit route, on the section adjacent to the Market Bridge, due to the placement of sidings.

According to the information provided by the Municipality of Funchal (CMF) on the 23rd of May, the works require the interruption of road traffic on the connecting road between Rua do Visconde de Anadia and Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot and the pedestrian circulation on the pedestrian crossing that connects the north promenade of Rua Dr. Fernão de Ornelas to the Market Bridge.

As an alternative to accessing the Rua do Hospital Velho and Rua da Infância, drivers should circulate to the Autonomy Square and use Brigadeiro Oudinot Street.

The CMF stresses that “unauthorised parking is expressly forbidden near or around the road works.”
