The current air pollution phenomenon is caused by a mass of air carrying suspended dust from the deserts of North Africa. The Directorate-General for Health recommends the population avoid prolonged exertion and exposure and limit outdoor physical activity.
This pollutant (inhalable particles) adversely affects human health, especially the most vulnerable, children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems. Due to their greater vulnerability, children and the elderly, as well as people with chronic respiratory problems and cardiovascular patients, in addition to complying with the general recommendations, should, whenever possible, remain inside buildings, preferably with the windows closed.
In case of worsening symptoms, the DGS advises contacting the Health Line 24 (808 24 24 24) or, if necessary, contact/visit your local health centre.
