In 2023, the foreign population residing in the Region reached 14,060 people, a growth of 141% compared to 2013, when 5,829 non-national citizens were recorded as living on the island.
The Diaspora in the World Association understands that the increase reflects the Government’s support for immigrants, who see Madeira as a “refuge” in fleeing war, persecution and financial needs.
Almost half of the housing search is made by outsiders.
