The presence, yesterday afternoon, of a Portuguese Air Force helicopter operating off the coast of Garajau aroused the curiosity of many people, leading to several reports and images shared on social networks.
According to what DIÁRIO learned from the commander of the Maritime Zone of Madeira, Bruno Teles, it was a joint exercise between the Navy and the Portuguese Air Force, which involved the EH-101 Merlin helicopter and the patrol ship NRP Zaire.
This type of training is carried out regularly by the two armed forces to improve coordination and response capacity during emergencies, particularly in search-and-rescue operations.
