Although the airport is said to be working normally; this morning a near riot ensued when a Ryanair flight failed to land.
A passenger, stranded at Madeira International Airport, contacted local newspaper JM highlighting the tense situation.
According to this source, several planes landed in Madeira for a short period this morning. However, the Ryanair flight that was due to pick up stranded passengers was unable to land. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back as passengers fed up with the situation began to argue and become obstructive to other passengers.
In a statement, the source said:
“Frustrated travellers, with no solutions, are blocking other flights in an attempt to force Ryanair to respond. The situation has worsened, requiring the intervention of the police to restore order.”
As seen from the photograph police officers had to link arms to prevent further trouble adding more misery to an already overwhelmingly difficult situation.
