AI will soon be rolled out to assist in Emergency operational centres and assist 112 Triage calls during peak times.
The news appeared in JN News, which cites a source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), which further assures that this system, operationalised through a virtual assistant will only be used during peak times and widespread emergencies and disaster operations.
Named ‘voicebot 112’ the initiative was presented today at the MAI TECH conference and will go live in January 2025.
There was no mention as to whether the rollout will include the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores.
As JN reports, this project started in January this year and will represent a total investment of about 11.5 million euros, to be poured between 2023 and 2027.
Through this technology, it will be possible to make a faster triage and, thus, reduce waiting times and the percentage of abandoned calls, by detecting false calls and by forwarding the really important ones to the emergency entities, whether they are the security forces, the firefighters or the INEM.
It is recalled that a report by the European Commission pointed out that Portugal was the second country in Europe with the most false calls to 112 in 2021.
