CMF: Being Sued Left, Right and Centre

On the 20th of October 2021, the Funchal municipality had debts of 8 million euros, and closed the year with a loss of 41 million euros, as presented by the Vice-President of the Municipality of Funchal, Cristina Pedra, to the municipal assembly deputies. 

During the meeting, Cristina Pedra (VP-CMF) pointed out that, until the current executive took office, “there were invoices and expenses that were not even accounted for, partially or totally,” namely related to Water and Sewage (ARM) bills. These invoices and expenses, mostly relating to previous years, amount to 26.4 million euros, and a further 1.5 million euros is owed to TxRH.

In addition, the Mayor of Funchal, explained that, regarding tax enforcement proceedings, the CMF has 214 proceedings brought by ARM against the municipality, while the Vice-President confirmed that there are currently 135 court actions against them.
