The Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, confirmed that the requirement for incoming travelers to bring a negative Covid test will be upheld. The measure was set to expire on Jan 8, 2022. .
“If it is possible to anticipate what the evolution [of the pandemic] will be, we can predict that from January 9, we will have to maintain border control measures,” said Costa, in statements to the entry to the European Council. “On January 9th, we will definitely extend it because we will not be able to withdraw these measures”, estimated the prime minister. “This variant [Ómicron] is spreading very intensely in Europe, and also in Portugal, and we will not be able to disarm, we will have to maintain or even reinforce it, if necessary”.
