Last night, the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters rescued two shearwaters. Once caught, both birds were handed over to the Madeira Natural Park.
One was found near Avenida do Mar and the other in the Almirante Reis area.
According to a source from the brigade, another shearwater was spotted on Avenida do Mar but flew away before firefighters could rescue it.
Juvenile birds are extremely susceptible to street lighting as it can disorientate them.
