The impact of Storm Regina left its imprint on Madeira today as 20 regional roads were closed due to snow, ice/hail, strong winds, and sea agitation. In the mountainous regions, the forest road between Eira do Serrado and Pico do Serrado Areeiro, the ER202 between Poiso and Pico do Areeiro, the municipal road of Chão da Lagoa, the ER103 between Terreiro da Luta and Poiso, the ER218 between Pico das Pedras and Achada do Teixeira, and Caminho das Queimadas in Santana were closed. At Paul da Serra and the surrounding area, the Estrada do Rochão (access to Paul da Serra), the ER209 between Malhadinha and Paul da Serra, the Estrada do Pomar D. João road, and the ER105 between Estanquinhos and Bica da Cana, as well as Levada Nova and Moinho, were also closed.
Several seafront access points were closed or conditioned: in Calheta, both Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar piers were closed; in Câmara de Lobos, Boca dos Namorados, Estrada da Corrida, and access to the Câmara de Lobos pier and Vigário Beach was off limits; in Porto Moniz, the piers of Porto Moniz and Seixal; and in Machico, the pier of Porto da Cruz. In Funchal, circulation on the Carreiras road (ER203) and ER215 (Meia Serra Road) was conditioned.
The Regional Protection Service Civil warns that non-essential travel should be avoided, given the high risk caused by adverse weather conditions, on both mountain and coastal roads.
