The island of Porto Santo, in Madeira, will have a second golf course, according to an announcement published yesterday in the Diário da República (DR), which indicates that the procedure for the first phase of the work has been launched.
The public tender for this first phase, launched by Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Porto Santo, has a base value of 6.1 million euros, excluding VAT.
The contract execution period is 13 months, and the contract will be funded by the European Union.
Currently, the archipelago has a golf course in Porto Santo and two in Madeira, with a third under construction in Ponta do Pargo. The Porto Santo Golf Course, built in 2003 and inaugurated in 2004, represented at the time an investment of 25 million euros from the public sector.
On the 3rd of November 2024, DIÁRIO reported that the Porto Santo Golf Course would grow exponentially in 2026 due to demand and the growth in golf tourism.
