The traffic chaos this morning in the Red Cross area and which affected the entire Cota 40 and, possibly, also the Expressway, was caused by a barrier on the road.
According to the Vice-President of the Funchal City Council, Traffic Department, Bruno Pereira, a barrier was placed at one of the entrances to Cota 40, which he believed had been put there for a joke.
“It is a complete mystery,” the Vice President declared. “One barrier clogged the epicentre of Funchal. As far as I am aware, there were no scheduled works in the area that could have conditioned the traffic.”
“As soon as the PSP removed the barrier, traffic began to flow normally. What I want more than anything is for the CCTV cameras to be installed. With these installed, situations such as this will come to an end.” Vehmently declared Bruno Pereira.
