Pedro Ramos, the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, guarantees that the cases of Dengue detected in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Funchal are under control and there is no reason for concern.
However, on the 18th of February, Diário da Notícias confirmed that the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) had notified the Regional Directorate of Health (DRS) and the Regional Health Authority (ASR) of two autochthonous cases of Dengue in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
According to the epidemiological investigation by the Health Authority, the cases refer to two residents living in the area where Dengue mosquitoes had been caught in a trap.
Later, the DRS said that the two cases posed no threat as the virus was outside the infectivity period and, therefore, did not threaten human life.
