The ADN – Madeira Party has alerted ACT – Authority for Working Conditions, ASSICOM – Association of Civil Construction Industrialists of Madeira-, and other responsible entities linked to the assembly of equipment and structures of the risks to the physical integrity of workers, and the need for adequate health and safety working conditions for workers.
In a statement, the ADN sent a photo of Funchal, on Avenida Sá Carneiro, showing a worker on top of scaffolding, “without any type of protection to prevent him from falling, he is seen handling electrical cables without the appropriate gloves, and he is not even wearing a safety helmet or goggles.” Laments the party.
ADN – Madeira considers it important to safeguard those who work in this type of activity, “as we all know that work accidents in these professions are common and little is done to prevent them from reoccurring. This in turn gives construction companies a sense of immunity.”Â
The Political Party proposes more and better supervision in matters of Health and Safety at work within the Civil Construction sector; an activity responsible for a large part of the region’s GDP. Supervision should extend to cover safety equipment, and hygienic working conditions eg. portaloos, an item which is often overlooked in construction planning.
“Along with fair wages, paid legally and on time, safety and hygiene at work, we need to safeguard all professionals to ensure adequate supervision and fine those who put their workforces at risk.”
