Levada dos Cedros Pedestrian Route Closed

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), has confirmed in a statement, that the Levada dos Cedros (Fanal – Curral Falso) (PR 14) pedestrian route is temporarily closed, due to several landslides.

Due to climatic conditions, the following routes are also closed.

  • PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada
  • PR 4 Levada do Barreiro
  • PR 7 Levada do Moinho
  • PR 12 Caminho real da Encumeada
  • PR 19 Caminho real do Paul do Mar
  • PR 20 Vereda do Jardim do Mar
  • PR 23 Levada da Azenha
  • PR 27 Glaciar de Planalto
  • PR 28 Levada da Rocha Vermelha

The following pedestrian routes are already partially passable:

  • PR 1 Path do Areeiro – passable route from Pico do Areeiro to the Pedra Rija Viewpoint, at km 1.2
  • PR 2 Path do Urzal – passable route from Lombo do Urzal to the km 6,2
  • PR 9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde – passable route from Queimadas to the junction with Vereda da Ilha, at km 4.5
  • PR 17 Path do Pináculo and Folhadal – passable route between the Encumeada and Bica da Cana

“Given that the Hiking trails are located in areas subject to strong climatic pressure and consequent natural erosion, walkers are advised to be careful when walking along these and all pedestrian routes. The IFCN also asks that walkers advise them of fallen trees, landslides, etc…
