Bela Vista Care Home Needs Inspecting

PAN-Madeira says that messages have reached the party, in addition to what has already come out in the media, about the current state of Lar da Bela Vista and asks for those who manage the care home to come forward and answer questions about the safety and adequacy of the care provided.

“The complaints that come to us should concern the whole society. From lack of hygiene products, minimal hot water for those living there, delays in meals due to lack of staff, and the lack of conditions for those who work there,”  states Deputy leader, Mónica Freitas

Questions were originally raised by the party with the President of the Social Security Institute when the home was transitioned into the private sector.

“The transition was made because it is considered that the private sector has greater capacity and ease to rehabilitate buildings, and that there is less bureaucracy in the search for funds, however, what we are witnessing is a total degradation. Not only in terms of the structure, we have photos of the current state of the rooms and bathrooms, but also of those who live there and who pay a monthly fee.  Children expect their parents to be looked after and receive quality of life, something that seems to be woefully missing.”

For the PAN, there must be an inspection with the utmost urgency, and government entities must provide the necessary clarifications to the population about this situation and work to safeguard the well-being of these people.

The party will through the Assembly’s own means request clarification from the Secretariat for Inclusion, that they are observing the situation.
