A major inspection operation took place this morning in the Machico area by the Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE), which had the support of the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory (LREC).
During the operation, 60 vehicles carrying foodstuffs were inspected.
In addition to the inspections by the two authorities, the LREC inspected the refrigeration equipment. During the operation, several vehicles were fined, and in one specific case, food was seized, as the products were poorly wrapped and their carrier was failing to comply with food health and safety transportation regulations.
