90-ear-Old Rescued By Navy

The Portuguese Navy, through the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Sub-Centre (MRSC Funchal), in conjunction with the Captain of the Port of Funchal, SANAS Madeira, and the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC IP-RAM), coordinated the medical rescue of a 90-year-old Lithuanian crew member, who was sailing aboard the vessel ‘Bonita da Madeira,’ located13 nautical miles, (24 kilometers), southeast of Funchal, this afternoon.

The alert was received at MRSC Funchal at 2:52 pm, by telephone contact from the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC IP-RAM), with a request for disembarkation. The elderly crew member was met at the Santa Cruz Coastal Rescue Centre at 16:09 where they were met by an ambulance team and transported to hospital.
