Maritime Warnings in Place

The Captaincy of Funchal has updated its strong wind and sea agitation warning, according to information received from the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA).

According to the statement from the maritime authority, the current weather situation (wind and sea) for the seafront will remain in place until 18:00 on Wednesday (the 28th).

The wind will blow from cool to very cool in a northeasterly direction, sometimes strong at night. Visibility will be good, sometimes moderate. As for the swell, on the north coast, NE waves of 3.5 to 4 metres, gradually decreasing to 3 to 3.5 meters, and, on the south coast, SE waves of 1 to 1.5 meters.

The Captaincy recommends the maritime community and the entire population to take precautions, both when preparing for a trip to the sea, and when they are at sea or in coastal areas.

Reinforce mooring and keep a close watch on moored and anchored vessels; avoid walking by the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation, such as the protection jetties of ports, cliffs, or beaches, and do not practice recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and cliff areas which frequently affected by the surf.
