Relatives of patients staying at Marmeleiros Hospital have complained that there is insufficient bed linen and food.
When questioned by JM reporters, a spokesperson for the Regional Health Service admitted that there were times when there were insufficient sheets due to an increase in the number of beds occupied, post-operative patients, and infection control procedures, but categorically stated that there was always enough food for everyone.
Responding to the criticisms, SESARAM issued a press statement saying that they have on average 8,500 sheets in stock.
“The Regional Health Service receives about 1,800 freshly laundered sheets daily.
The needs ascertained for the Health Centres and their hospital units are around 4,500 units,” states SESARAM, adding that “these sheets are used in all health centres (47) and hospitals (João de Almada Hospital, Marmeleiros Hospital, Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital).”
As for the lack of sheets, the service guarantees that all the necessary sheets were delivered on time on the 10th of October.”
