Confiança councillor, Cláudia Dias Ferreira, says that no matter what the Mayor of Funchal says, the plague of mosquitoes is real, and not imaginary.
Calling out the Mayor, she said:
“The Mayor, who denies this problem, should leave the comfort of his air-conditioned office and try to work in the ‘real’ Funchal where people living and working in Funchal are being bitten to death by mosquitoes.”
Backed up by the Entomological Panel of the Regional Health Secretariat on the monitoring of the Aedes aegypi mosquito in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (week of 02 to 08 October 2023), saw significant increases in the last 15 days, above 50%, both in terms of control in egg traps, but especially in those of adult mosquitoes, with particular focus on the municipality of Funchal.
Another thing I have noticed, except that the mosquitoes are larger, more aggressive, and capable of biting through clothing and socks, is that they are not making their customary whining sound, turning them into silent predators.
