Tourist Rescued in Pico Ruivo

A man in his 30’s was rescued by the Santana Volunteer Firefighters this morning at 09:52 while attempting the walk between Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro.

According to the JM, the man, a British citizen, felt unwell, probably due to the heat, contacted the emergency services asking for help.

On receiving the call the Integrated Communications Centre of the Regional Command for Relief Operations (CROS), requested that the Santana Volunteer Firefighters attend the scene. After assessing the situation, the Civil Protection Service helicopter crew was called out to fly the victim back to their Cancela base, after which he was immediately transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
