The Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM has launched its 2023 rural fire prevention campaign, titled ‘Madeira without fires – depends on everyone!’
The initiative is part of the cultural awareness of the Civil Protection Team and the general Madeian population. With this in mind, “over the next few weeks, images and short videos of Madeiran Firefighters with their children will be released, in order to raise awareness of the fact that these Civil Protection Agents often abandon their families to help others, working long hours to put out rural fires, protecting people, their property and the environment.”
In this sense, the Regional Service calls on the population to take precautions and follow the safety advice: “Be a Civil Protection Agent: Madeira without fires depends on everyone!”
Common sense dictates that citizens should not throw lit matches or cigarettes on the ground, do not light fires, do not launch rockets, and clear scrub and dying vegetation from around dwellings, smallholdings, and farms.
