The III Seminar ‘Levadas da Madeira’ took place this week in the auditorium of the Madeira Archive and Library, and included the application process of classifying the levadas of Madeira as UNESCO world heritage sites.
During the morning, a debate was held with the moderation of Manuel Filipe, President of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, in which Vanda Serpa, Director of the Environment and Climate Change Service of Pico, gave her contribution on the experience of the Cultural Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard, as a heritage site.
The talk was followed by a presentation by Susana Fontinha from the Regional Secretariat for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change (SRAAC), who provided updates on the status of the heritage application process.
The seminar closed with the presentation of Rafaela Rodrigues’s book ‘O Levadeiro,’ followed by a performance of ‘Levadas,’ by musician Fábrica Anónima.
