The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) reported today that all the regions classified hiking trails will be closed due to adverse weather conditions.
Thus, and since the mountainous regions will be especially affected by storm Oscar, the IFCN points to the dangerousness of hiking in the mountainous areas and forest areas, due to landslides, rockfalls and eventually falling trees.
In addition to closing all classified walking routes, the IFCN advises against any recreational / sports activity in these areas, warning the local population and tourists not to travel to mountainous areas, while weather alerts are in force.
Furthermore, the forest road that connects Eira do Serrado to Pico do Areeiro will close for the same period and for the same reason.
The IFCN will have in these places, and for preventive reasons, elements of the Forest Police, Nature Watchers, and other operational employees.
As I have said before, weather warnings apply to everyone. As while working in tourism I have met people before who did not think that a red weather warning or any other weather warning applied to them!
