A foreign citizen was seriously injured late yesterday afternoon after having suffered a bicycle accident in Caminho do Terço, in Choupana, just over half a kilometre from the Madeira Stadium.
The 49-year-old Spanish tourist was heading down the steep road towards Funchal when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a wall.
The victim was assisted by a leader of the National CD, who also alerted the emergency services.
The victim suffered several abrasions on his body and complained and suffered severe facial wounds. After being rescued, he was transported to hospital by the Portuguese Red Cross, where he was admitted to the emergency department and underwent surgery.
