Madeira’s International Airport was affected by strong winds again today, with nine flights being diverted and four flight cancellations.
According to the ANA – Aeroportos de Portuga website, the first flight of the day, the 07:45 Ryanair flight from Lisbon was diverted.
After a period in which several planes managed to land, flights from Birmingham (Jet2) in the United Kingdom, Vienna (Smartwings) in Austria, and Helsinki (Finnair) in Finland were also diverted.
Flights from London (Esyjet) and Lisbon (TAP), scheduled to arrive at 11:30 and 11:45, respectively, were cancelled.
Bad weather is expected to affect the airport over the next couple of days, and all passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before travelling.
