World Earth Day was celebrated on the 22nd of April, and the PAN party – People, Animals, and Nature – Madeira launched a challenge to the population to think and reflect that: “We are only 6 years and 91 days from global environmental collapse.”
“At a time when we are an increasingly populated world, with excessive consumption and whose indicators of health, the atmosphere, the land, and the oceans are getting worse and worse, what are we willing to do for the place where we live and where our children and grandchildren will live?” A spokesperson for the party questioned.
Concluding, the spokesperson stated, “although the region cannot combat the scourge of global warming and climate change on its own, it has to have greater energy autonomy and embark on a greener economy.
Our region cannot want to help the environment if it continues to pollute its water resources, ignore the circular economy, destroy vegetation cover, build cement on top of more cement without providing green spaces, without reusing resources, killing animals just because they can (cats in Pico Aeerio), among many other things.”
