An analysis carried out on seawater in the coastal area of Funchal reveals a “total absence of fecal contamination,” confirmed the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change this afternoon.
She went on to say, that given this data, the brown dirt in the water, which is often complained about by bathers and onlookers, ‘is not sewage contamination.’
Furthermore, the ‘contamination’ detected on the 4th of April, was of natural origin and caused by living marine organisms.
