Cabo Girão Viewpoint Starts Charging Visitors

From Monday the 6th of March, visitors to the Cabo Girão will be required to pay an entrance fee.  However, access is free for Madeirans and Port-Santenses provided they register on the Platform SIMplifica, for their ‘residence card.’

“All current users of SIMplifica with an active residence certificate – necessary to benefit from the Porto Santo mobility allowance – have already received or will receive, an email associated with their portal  registration, and an updated resident card which allows the user to not only to continue to benefit from the mobility allowance but also access the viewpoint free of charge,” said the Regional Secretary of Finance.

The resident card can be printed or stored electronically. For those who experience any difficulty in registering, the helpline can be contacted on 800 29 90 90, which operates from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00.

Children up to 12 years old  are exempt from all charges.

At the moment the viewpoint is still being adapted for those with mobility issues, however, this should be completed fairly soon and again all entry fees are waived.

Reaffirming the Regional Governments decision to start charging entrance fees at some of the islands most popular tourist spots, the Regional Secretary for Finance said that all monies received go towards the upkeep and preservation of local heritage sites.
