The famous Brides Veil Road, which remains closed, will only be reopened if the Municipality of Porto Moniz authorises it.
While talking to reporters, Pedro Fino, the Regional Secretary for Infrastructure said:
“This road is not a regional road. We solved the initial unsuitability of this road by creating a tunnel that bypasses this section. The Brides Veil Road is dangerous on two counts, the overhanging escarpment, and secondly, sea erosion of the road platform supports. However, if it is reopened there will have to be additional security conditions in place, and it will then be up to the Municipality of Porto Moniz to assess whether to take a risk in reopening the road or not.
