Heron Rescued by IFCN

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation, IP-RAM, Wild Bird Recovery Centre rushed into action today to rescue a ‘very weak’ heron.

According to an IFCN press note, the animal was found in Reis Magos, Caniço, where the bird was discovered, rescued, and delivered to staff at the SOS Wildlife Network – IFCN Wildlife Collection Programme, IP-RAM.

“The bird was very debilitated and regurgitated rubbish from its stomach, namely a cigarette butt that it had unfortunately ingested. After treatment and observation, it was then possible to return the heron back to the wild.”
