Pedro Ramos, the Regional Secretary doe Health and Civil Protection, visited today the Occupational Health Service of SESARAM, as part of the vaccination campaign against influenza and covid-19.
During his visit, the Regional Health Secretary confirmed that approximately 33,000 flu vaccinations have already been administered to people over the age of 55. However, when talking to reporters, Pedro Ramos confessed that:
“It’s a percentage that doesn’t completely satisfy us. We want more and more people to come forward and ask to be vaccinated. So far, 30% of health professionals have been inoculated against the flu and only 35% of people aged 55 and over, have come forward.
On the Covid-19 front, for which there are 70,000 vaccinations available, 91% of the population are fully inoculated, 53% have had their booster jab and a further 5% have received the adapted vaccine.
Nevertheless, Pedro Ramos asks everyone to take vaccination seriously as prevention is better than cure, especially with regard to RSV (Respiratory Sincicial Virus), which can severely affect young children, the immuno-compromised, and the elderly.
With regards to Christmas and the New Year celebrations, Pedro Ramos confirmed that no restrictions are expected to be put in place.
