Thirty-four kilos of rubbish was collected during a beach cleaning exercise at the blue flag beach of Praia da Banda d’Além.
Twenty-two children, three young adults from the ATL Vacation Ativa (Machico Parish Council) and three adults took part in the MARAM initiative of the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Change, as part of the Environmental Education activity, promoted by the Municipality of Machico.
Most of the rubbish was collected from inside the Ribeira de Machico, which runs next to the beach, and from the rocks that protect the area from both the sea and river.
