A team of lifeguards on duty on the Combro beach in Porto Santo, rescued a swimmer who was in trouble and in danger of drowning. An EMIR team were also called out to attend the incident.
Later on, local newspaper, JM, managed to ascertain that the bather swam out to retrieve a beach ball, was dragged out to sea and unable to return to shore due to fatigue and the strength of the current.
