Pensioner Steals 1,700 Euro Phone

The Madeira Regional Command of the Public Security Police recovered a mobile phone worth €1,700, which was stolen from a shop counter in Funchal yesterday afternoon, and later discovered in Machico.

Aware of their loss, the woman went to the Funchal police station at around 14:00 yesterday, stating that she had left her phone on a shop counter, and when she returned shortly afterwards she was told that someone else had taken it.  The police reacted immediately, and were able to discover that the phone through its tracking device, which was now in Machico.  Working closely with the Machico CID they were able to retrieve the device from a 60-year-old, who had swiped it, and return the phone to its owner. 

The senior citizen could face possible criminal charges, and their details have already been forwarded to the Judicial Court in Funchal.  

The PSP Regional Command of Madeira asks all citizens or crime victims to report crimes or any suspicious or injurious situations to their their nearest police station, in order for the police to act quickly and effectively, so to better serve and support their local communities.
