Covid-19: Increase in Figures is Unsurprising!

In the opinion of the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, there is no need, for the time being, to take any additional measures regarding the increase in Covid-19 cases in the Region.

When challenged by journalists, he said “that this is a normal situation in which, although cases are increasing, the associated symptoms are not serious. As long as the number of inpatients does not increase, and the Regional Health System is not overwhelmed, we do not have to worry”. Although, he reiterated, it is wise to be careful and take safety precautions where possible.

He concluded by saying that restrictive Covid-19 measures will only be necessary in the event of an increase in hospitalisations, which will compromises the capacity of the Regional Health System.

In May, Madeira recorded 8,172 cases of Covid-19 confirmed the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection, in its monthly bulletin.

The Region recorded 263 cases per day, on average, 14 deaths in a month and an average of 28 daily admissions.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Madeira has registered 117,884 positive cases, 285 deaths and 114,867 recovered. In terms of tests, more than two million tests have already been carried out (2,765,120).
