Yesterday, several operatives from the Porto Santo Volunteer Firefighters were involved in a complex mountain rescue and relief operation.
The original report stated that a person suddenly disappeared from the Miradouro das Flores in Porto Santo, and it was believed that he had fallen from the top of the cliff. However, this information soon changed as the bodies of two people were spotted between Miradouro das Flores and Zimbralinho by a passer-by who then alerted the authorities.
Rui Manuel Teixeira, Commander of the Maritime Zone of Madeira (ZMM) and Captain of Ports of Funchal and Porto Santo, said at the time that the Maritime Authority and Porto Santo captaincy operatives, were working alongside local firefighters to retrieve the body of the man, while the second body, that of a woman had already been pulled out of the sea and transported to the morgue.
Information is still scarce, and anything could have happened as they were both in what is considered a dangerous area.
Our thoughts are with their family and friends.
