No Carnival

The president of the Island Government, Miguel Albuquerque, confirmed the cancellation of the carnival festivities for 2022 because it would start already on February 26, and there would be no safe conditions, given the type of crowds that the parades attract. The risk of contagion would be too great. Although there will be no parades, the Government will still support the groups which already trained for the parade. The damage the cancellation will cause will mainly hit the hotel sector.

Albuquerque said that it is too early to make any predictions about the Flower Festival.

As for covid-19, he said that there is no pressure on the health service and reiterates that, even though he is concerned, things are under control.
