Quinta Falcão Composting Project

Between now and the 28th of November, the Municipality of Funchal will be part of European Week for Waste Prevention, which aims to promote awareness on sustainable resources and waste management, thus creating greater environmental awareness among citizens.

As part of the European Week for Waste Prevention, the Municipality of Funchal is promoting the Pilot Project for Community Composting at the Quinta Falcão IV Housing Complex.

This year’s thematic focus is ‘Circular Communities’ and poses the challenge of acting together, changing behaviour, promoting sustainable consumption and a circular economy. Topics such as reducing waste production, combating food waste, recycling and composting will all be addressed.

As part of the existing project, the housing complex has already been involved in a composting scheme that has created 690 kg of compost in less than a year; which residents are now using to improve the soil in their gardens.
