5,000 Plants Distributed to Farmers

As a way to boost cider production and help the island’s agricultural industry, the Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development, Humberto Vasconcelos, will provide some of the regions farmers with traditional apple and pear trees.  The varieties include, Maçã Barral, Maçã Cara de Dama, Pêro Calhau, Pêro Domingos, and Pêro Ponta do Pargo.

For Humberto Vasconcelos, this is an important step in guaranteeing and developing a top quality cider, produced from regional goods that share a ‘genetic heritage’ with the island.

A total of 5,000 trees will be donated to the initiative.
