Huge Upsurge in Covid Cases

Today was a day many of us hoped was in the past, but with 51 active new cases, this is a sharp reminder that the SARS-CoV-2 virus lurks all around us.

The two biggest hotspots are Lar de Gaula nursing home, where twenty-four people (residents and staff) tested positive for the virus, and seventeen students and two teachers at the EB1/PE school in Nazaré. This has been ongoing since the 26th of October.

The President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque stated earlier on that although he is very concerned at how the virus is re-emerging, we are going to ‘have to live with Covid,’ and that at present he has no intention of bringing in any new restrictive measures.

The bottom line being, be alert, visit your local vaccination centre and have your booster shot, as those who have been vaccinated tend to suffer milder symptoms, and do not think that the pandemic is over!
