Madeira Military Drone Operators Help Search for Missing Fisherman

The drone operators team from the Operation and Experimentation Initiation Nucleus of Unmanned Aerial Systems of the Operational Command of Madeira (COM), took part in a search and rescue mission in the Azores yesterday.

According to an official statement, a local fisherman disappeared on Pico Island, at 6:30 am local time, and the drone operators, who where already in the vicinity as they were taking part in the Açor Exercise, were asked to assist in the search and rescue mission.  They were further assisted by the Portuguese Naval crew from the António Enes Corvette, who were operating a DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone.

Unfortunately, the statement did not say whether the mission had been a success or not.

Between the 3rd and 5th of November, drone operators will be taking part in Exercise Dronex21, which will involve officers from the Regional Civil Protection Service, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Institute, the Public Security Police and SANAS.
