A 35-year-old French citizen, who has been missing since Wednesday, the 1st of September has still not been found.
According to a source from the national command of the PSP, the searches began “immediately” after they were alerted by the French Embassy that the man had gone missing, after saying that he was just going out for a walk.
Further information has been provided by the man’s cousin, Emmanuelle da Silva Poseidon, who has posted photographs and pleas for help on her social media accounts. The image posted, shows her cousin in the Queimadas area, and it is known that he spent the night before his disappearance in Santana.
The searches, which are being carried out by the Public Security Police (PSP), are currently confined to the Queimadas area in Santana, and in particular Levada da Serra da Ilha. Interestingly, the Forestry Police have not been invited to join in the search.
The French tourist is 1.85m tall, and was determined to get to know Madeira by backpacking around the island. If anyone has any information, please contact your nearest PSP station.
And with the weather on the turn, it is now more important than ever to find him!
Worryingly, both a German and Polish tourist disappeared in separate incidents while hiking in the mountains, and another German tourist fell into the sea, and his body has never been recovered.
