With red weather warnings for heat and fire, its small wonder that the regions temperatures soared above 35 degrees by the beginning of this afternoon. The highest temperatures recorded at 1 pm this afternoon were Quinta Grande (35.3 ºC), Prazeres (35.1 ºC) and Monte, 35.0 °C.
According to Vitor Prior, director of IPMA’s Funchal Meteorological Observatory, “today’s temperatures are the highest recorded this year.”
Please note, that several warnings are still in force due to the heat plume that is affecting Madeira and Porto Santo.
