A 60-year-old man had to be rescued this afternoon, after suffering a fall while walking to Pico Ruivo.
Suffering from a serious foot injury, the man was rescued by the Santana Volunteer Fire Brigade’s Search and Rescue team, and initially treated by the regional Civil Protection Service- pre-hospital emergency team (EMIR), before being transported to the Santana Health Centre.
However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was quickly transported to the emergency department of the Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal.
