If the safety of the population is at stake, the Mayor of Funchal and the Municipality (CMF), will order the destruction of all the trees at Largo da Fonte, in Monte, and replace them with more suitable species.
This may appear a reasonable solution, and ideally any diseased or unstable trees should be removed, however, these trees are part of the island’s natural heritage, and therefore should be protected where possible.
