Figures released by the Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), reveal that 37,427 rounds of golf were played on the regions golf courses (Santo da Serra, Palheiro and Porto Santo) in 2020, 42.8% less than in 2019, equating to a 1.4 million euro turnover.
Due to the pandemic, all three courses were closed in April 2020, and of the 37,427 rounds played, 61.2% were played by non-members, mostly from the Nordic countries, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
Further details reveal that 50.9% of the rounds were sold by hotels and similar establishments, 25.8% by the golf courses themselves, and 23.3% by tour operators.
