Pedro Calado Promises Mass Sterilisation of Stray Animals

During his visit to the Animal Protection Society (SPAD), Pedro Calado, candidate for Funchal City Council for the PSD/CDS coalition, promised, that if elected he would develop a massive sterilisation plan for all animals abandoned on the island’s public roads. His aim, he said, is to stop the exponential increase of stray cats and dogs living miserable lives on the island’s streets.

The current Vice-President of the Regional Government understands that the municipal executive in office “does not have an animal protection policy,” and proposes the implementation in conjunction with the Regional Government, “of a sterilisation plan which will include a sterilisation awareness programme for the whole population, as well as implementing animal awareness schemes and training throughout the island’s schools.
