The Numbers Behind the Covid-19 Reporting Discrepancy

While attending a debate at local newspaper, JM headquarters, the Regional Secretary for Education, Jorge Carvalho, was asked to explain the discrepancy in yesterday’s daily Covid-19 figures, as the Department of Education had confirmed five positive cases in the regions schools, while the Regional Health Directorate (DRS) only reported one case.

Trying to wiggle his way round the conundrum, Jorge Carvalho, explained that the Regional Secretary for Education provides details on the number of active cases identified in schools at 6 pm every evening, to coincide with the official numbers released by the Regional Health Authority.  Unfortunately, he said, sometimes there is a reporting delay due to schools requiring further information before releasing their figures.

Even more interesting, is that although the figures are reported daily, this doesn’t necessarily mean that these are the days figures, as incidents like weekends and bank holidays can cause information delays.

So, there you have it!
